Wanderer, wonderer, journeyman, folksinger — Nate Taylor fuses story and experience on a quest for connection through music — to people, to nature, to truth. Raised on classical music, Taylor found folk music and the guitar long after he thought he’d left music in the past. After completing undergraduate studies in mathematics and chemistry, he moved to New York City to explore career options. During two years of hard work in a Manhattan skyscraper, his idealism came face to face with the realities of modern America, and Taylor found new inspiration in folk music, watching artists including Anaïs Mitchell, Ben Howard, and Bon Iver.
On January 20, 2013 while visiting family in Pennsylvania, Taylor penned the following words in his journal: "The big realization is that I may have finally realized that all I want to do with my life is music...okay, let's set a loose game plan...play guitar, write some tunes." Though a student of music, playing the piano and cello and singing in numerous choirs, Taylor had never learned to play the guitar. The next day he returned home to NYC with his father's 40-year-old Martin and the conviction to learn to play. Over the next two years he furiously learned the guitar, wrote songs, left NYC to drive around the United States, and ultimately relocated to Boston.
Often compared to Nick Drake for his resonant fingerpicking, Taylor paints an ethereal soundscape with his soaring vocals that implores a kind of reverence for the moment. His songs wrestle with love, loss, and purpose in pursuit of the ideal that music can be a force for understanding in an ever more disparate world. While a faithful steward of the Boston folk scene for much of the year, Taylor completed his fourth annual house show tour in 2018, affectionately titled There And Back Again, or TABA 2018, covering 12,000 miles and living out his vision of community through music. In December 2018, Taylor released “TABA 2018 LIVE,” a collection of live recordings from TABA 2018.
